As economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions continue to ripple across global markets, precious metals are again in the spotlight. Recent analysis from Ainslie Bullion shows silver gaining strong momentum—and gold holding firm with bullish forecasts for the remainder of 2025.

Silver Leads the Charge

Over the past three weeks, silver has surged more than 12%, easily outperforming gold’s 2.5% rise in the same period. This rally has brought the gold-silver ratio (GSR) down to 91, still historically high—suggesting silver remains undervalued compared to gold.

This pattern isn’t new. In previous downturns, silver has outpaced gold in the recovery phase. After the 2008 crash, the GSR dropped from the 80s to below 40, highlighting silver’s explosive upside potential during periods of economic instability.

With early signs of a global slowdown and interest rate cuts on the horizon, many investors are watching silver for the next leg up. Interested? Read more about silver here.

Gold’s Bullish Forecast

Gold remains strong in 2025, recently trading near USD $2,450 per ounce. Analysts are divided on where it’s headed next:

  • Citigroup projects a retreat below USD $2,000 if recession fears fade.

  • UBS, JPMorgan, and Commonwealth Bank forecast prices between USD $2,500 and $2,700, supported by central bank buying, a weakening US dollar, and heightened geopolitical risks.

Despite short-term fluctuations, the long-term drivers—currency devaluation, debt concerns, and demand from institutions—remain intact. Interested? Read more about gold here.

What It Means for SMSF and Personal Investors

For investors, particularly those using SMSFs or looking to hedge their long-term wealth:

  • Silver may offer stronger upside in a recovery environment—particularly if gold consolidates.

  • Gold remains a key store of value, especially in times of political or financial stress.

  • Diversifying across both metals can help balance stability with growth potential.
