My name is Mieke and I am a junior self-managed super fund (SMSF) accountant in training here within Freedom Financial Superannuation Solutions, the sister company to Freedom FFS which manages SMSF setups.
I spent several years with the set-up team, managing the process from beginning to end. Then in 2023 I moved across to the SMSF accounting team.
As I develop in this role, I’m gaining a deeper understanding of how SMSFs can be a powerful tool for clients to take control of their retirement savings. My training involves learning the intricate details of SMSF regulations, including contributions, withdrawals, and investment strategies, and ensuring that funds are compliant with Australian tax and superannuation laws.
I’m also becoming competent in preparing end of year financial statements and assisting clients with looking at different scenarios to find the most effective ways to structure their SMSF to meet their long-term goals.
One of the most interesting aspects of my training is understanding the wide range of investments SMSFs can hold, from shares and cryptocurrency to real estate and bullion. There’s something for everyone!
As I continue to develop my expertise, I am eager to help individuals understand the benefits of SMSFs, especially the flexibility, potential tax advantages, and investment opportunities they provide. Ultimately, my role is about empowering clients to make well-informed decisions that will lead to a secure and successful retirement.
SMSFs are beneficial for young adults like myself, as they offer greater control over retirement savings and investment decisions. The flexibility SMSFs have also allow for tailored investment strategies that align with personal financial goals.
